- a diploma (if you never received it or would like to order a replacement/additional copy) or
- a re-classification of diploma if you graduated with one of the following degrees:
- Bachelor of Administrative Studies (BAS),
- Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc),
- Bachelor of Law (LLB) or
- Master/Magisteriate of Arts (MA DEM).

Your full legal name, as shown on the Student Personal Information, is what is used on official University documents, such as transcripts and diplomas.
To make any changes to your official name, you must submit a Name Change form to the Registrar's Office along with the appropriate supporting documentation as outlined on the form.
For your correct name to appear on your diploma, the Name Change Form must be submitted to the Registrar's Office alongside with your request for reclassification and/or a duplicate diploma order.

Picking up Your Diploma
I recently graduated from York. When can I pick my diploma?
Diplomas and certificates are not available for pick-up immediately following a convocation ceremony. If you want to pick up a February diploma or certificate, you can do so beginning the first business day in March. If you want to pick up a June diploma or certificate, you can do so beginning the first business day in July. If you want to pick up an October diploma or certificate, you can do so beginning the first business day in November.
If I don't pick up my diploma on time, how long do you keep diplomas and certificates on file?
Diplomas and certificates are kept on file for approximately one year following the convocation ceremony. The timeframes are as follows:
- February convocation diplomas and certificates are kept until the following March 1.
- June convocation diplomas and certificates are kept until the following June 1.
- October convocation diplomas and certificates are kept until the following October 1.
Contact Registrarial Services at 416-872-YORK (9675) if you graduated within the above timeframes but never received your original diploma and/or certificate.
Where can I pick up my diploma and/or certificate?
You can pick it up at Registrarial Services in the lobby of the Bennett Centre for Student Services during regular office hours. If you want to pick up your diploma in person, please ensure that you have photo identification with you.
A third party may pick up a diploma or certificate on your behalf provided they have a signed letter of authorization from you allowing them to do so. Additionally, they will have to show their own photo identification when they pick it up.
Can I have my diploma and/or certificate mailed to me?
Yes, you can. Fill out the Diploma Mailing Request form and fax it to 416-736-5444 or put it in the drop box located in the lobby of the Bennett Centre for Student Services (the building is open 24 hours a day).
If you choose to have your diploma mailed to you, mailing charges are:
- $35 in Canada
- $50 in the United States
- $100 International
All diplomas are sent through UPS and require a signature from the receiving party. When York University ships your diploma, UPS will be provided with your e-mail address and they will e-mail you a shipping confirmation and tracking number. If there is no one home at the time of delivery, UPS will leave a card in your mailbox indicating that an attempt was made to deliver the diploma or certificate. The diploma or certificate will then be sent to a local distribution centre for pick up by you at a later time.
Diplomas and certificates that are returned to the University as undeliverable will be filed and held until the next December or July (whichever is sooner). It is the graduate's responsibility to pay for another mailing for any diplomas or certificates that are returned, so please ensure that the address information that you submit is correct.
I am about to order a diploma online. Can I pick it up in person?
Yes, if you would like to pick up your diploma, you may do so by selecting pick-up during the ordering process.
What will happen if I'd like to pick up my diploma but still owe fees to the University?
Make sure you clear your outstanding balance with York University or make financial arrangement for payments before you pick up you diploma.
Ordering Your Diploma/Certificate
I graduated from York more than a year ago and never picked up my diploma. What should I do?
If you graduated outside the timeframes shown above, you must request and pay for a new diploma or certificate. Follow the instructions in Step 1 and Step 2 on this page.
I'd like to change my degree designation (e.g. from BAS to BCom) and am about to order a diploma online. What should I know?
Alumni who elect to change their degree designation can expect the following:
- A notation will be added to your academic record and transcript that the degree was renamed.
- A new diploma with the designation will be issued to you using the diploma design and layout currently in effect; you may keep your original diploma.
How long will it take to receive a diploma replacement?
- Once processed, it takes four to six weeks to receive your replacement diploma.
- If you graduated prior to 1994, you should anticipate a longer turnaround time.
Please note: during busy and peak times, such as examination periods and convocation as well as University closures, processing times will increase. Questions regarding your application should be sent to Diploma Services.
What will happen if I ordered a replacement/duplicate diploma or diploma re-classification, but still owe fees to the University?
Your order will not be processed until you have cleared your outstanding balance or made financial arrangement for payments.
